I have to be honest. My expectations for the Republican led house were not very high. I have heard all the promises before. Many times in fact, and just like Lucy pulling the football at the last second from Charlie Brown have seen them fold time and again like a wet napkin. This then begs the question. What do the Republicans stand for? Seriously, is there a hill they would die on? I know we all have our favorite conservative, someone we think would lead the charge but the vast majority of office holders clearly have a very different set of priorities than the ones they vocalize to us common folk to get themselves elected.
You really have to admire the Democrats who are willing to burn the country down to advance their Marxist causes. At least they stay true to the mission and let absolutely nothing, including the voters, fair elections or rule of law, get in their way. From flooding the country with illegals to bankrupting our economy with “green” regulations and taxes to borrowing our way into oblivion. Democrats are all together in lock step with destroying the capitalist free society we have enjoyed for hundreds of years in favor of yet another go at a Marxist utopia. You know, the one that will succeed this time (please ignore all the other miserable failures).
We gladly participate in the process, get ourselves informed and vote. We place our hopes in these folks who promise they will stand up and fight for us. Republicans tell voters they are going to “reign in out of control spending” and “stand up to the radical Biden agenda”. All great things that their pollsters tell them we want, however every single time, and I mean every. single. time. these guys don’t even try to put up a fight. This current deal? It’s a free reign on spending(no limits) for the next two years adding 4 trillion in debt and yep the 87,000 new IRS agents are still going to be hired. Total and complete capitulation to a senile old man who has no political capital to spend. Not one of Indiana’s so called conservative Republicans will stand up to Kevin McCarthy.
So what in fact do they really want with a political office? This is kind of important since there are plenty of over qualified people who could fill their positions and actually do something for the people and for the Constitution. It appears to me that money and power followed by more money seems to be the driving principle. Republicans actually have a vested interest in the Democrats being in power since this drives their fundraising. If this sounds cynical to you then I apologize. I am just tired of being Charlie Brown.
As of this morning(5/31/23) Congressman Jim Banks is a no on the debt ceiling increase. I wanted to update this since I stated in my piece that no Republican from Indiana was a no vote. Stay tuned as it appears the no's are gaining some traction.
